Weight-loss group therapy classes offered

America is one of the richest, most progressive countries in the world.  So why would CBS News release the following statement earlier this year describing our current American population:  “This could be the first generation since the Civil War to have a shortened life expectancy.”
What epidemic could possibly be responsible for this reduced life span?  Obesity.
The evidence is everywhere.  190 million Americans are overweight – that’s two-thirds of our current population.  Research shows that 150 billion dollars will be spent in 2010 to fight obesity-related diseases.  Scarier still is the statistic that childhood obesity has tripled in the last thirty years.
Even though we live in an amazing country with technological advancements and freedoms galore, our country has one of the smallest pools of practical nutritional knowledge.
Just look at the diet industry in America –it’s big business supported by billions of American dollars.  Unfortunately, most often these diet plans focus solely on food and not what you need to do each day in order to get healthy.
Stephen Hiatt and Kimberly Hiatt, health and fitness devotees have created a weight loss group therapy class to help San Juan County residents fight this epidemic and live healthier lives.
Stephen is a Psychiatric Nurse Specialist with 12 years of experience in the mental health profession.  Both Stephen and Kimberly have a passion for health and fitness having competed in Ironman® triathlons and spent years coaching running and swimming classes.
The class, called “For the HEALTH of IT” weight-loss group therapy, will be held on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. starting May 13.  The class will run for 12 sessions with class size limited to 10 individuals.
Emphasis will be placed on learning skills to achieve permanent weight loss, including implementing techniques to overcome psychological and practical obstacles, selecting foods that minimize hunger and cravings, and changing mindsets about food that have derailed those in the past from reaching their health and fitness goals.
You are worth an improved self-image, worth better health, worth an enriched life, worth renewed confidence and control.  There is no better person than YOU nor better time than NOW to invest in your health before it slips away.
