Voters will face full slate or sparse ballots in November

While Blanding voters will have a full slate of candidates on the ballot in the November General election, the choices will be sparse for voters in Monticello.

Six candidates are seeking the three open positions on the Blanding City Council, including incumbents Kelly Laws and Eric Johnson. The other candidates are Charlie Taylor, Joe B. Lyman, Kim Smith and Jeremy Redd. Randy Pemberton will not seek another term on the Council

In contrast, only one candidate filed to run for the three open positions on the Monticello City Council. Walter Bird, who was appointed to a two-year position in 2006, will be the only candidate on the ballot in November. The two remaining positions are currently held by Blen Freestone and Cassie Boyle.

While the filing deadline to be on the ballot has passed, Monticello residents could announce a write-in campaign in November. If positions remain open after the November election, the City Council will appoint council members.
