Voters to the polls November 6

Voters will select members of governing boards in area communities at the November 6 general election. Three seats are up for grabs in Monticello, Bluff and Blanding.

The name of only one candidate is on the ballot in Monticello, incumbent city Councilman Walter Bird. However, three city residents have filed as write-in candidates, including Scott Christensen, Scott Shakespeare and Jerry Ward.

Election officials say voters will need to clearly signal their intended candidates when writing in the candidates.

A profile of candidates for Monticello City Council is found on page five of this newspaper.

There are five names on the ballots of those seeking the three open positions on the Blanding City Council. They include incumbents Eric Johnson and Kelly Laws and challengers Joe B. Lyman, Kim Smith and Charlie Taylor.

A profile of candidates for Blanding City Council is found on page four of this newspaper.

Three Bluff residents are on the ballot for the three open positions on the Bluff Service area board of trustees. They are incumbent Skip Meier, Susan DeLorme and David Carpenter.

In addition to the candidate races, residents of Blanding will cast their votes on two sales tax proposals that could generate revenue for recreation projects. Information about the proposal can be found on page three of this newspaper.

Voters throughout the county and throughout the state will vote on the proposed school voucher program. Information in support of vouchers is on page seven of this paper, while information oppposed to vouchers is on page six.

Voting locations open early on Tuesday, November 6. Voters in six San Juan County precincts will vote with mailed ballots. A growing number of voters are taking advantage of early voting by simply showing up at the office of the San Juan County Clerk in the courthouse in Monticello.
