Visitor Center to open exhibit on Posey

The Blanding Visitors Center is sponsoring an open house on Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 2 to 7 p.m. to introduce a new four-panel display on “Posey”, a legend of southeastern Utah.
The display was developed by Gary and Sharon Guymon, with the able assistance of Kathy Hurst, Rayburn Jack and Kelly Pugh.
Posey lived during a time of great change as cattlemen, miners, and Mormon pioneers moved onto the hunting and gathering lands of the Ute people.
As a boy, Blanding founder Albert R. Lyman became acquainted with Posey’s family when they both lived at the Bluff Fort. Shortly before Mr. Lyman died in the 1970s, Stan Bronson recorded Albert telling of Posey.
The exhibit includes Albert R. Lyman’s narration. Albert was a great storyteller. Also featured in the exhibit is a beaded belt made by Bert Palmer that replicates one that belonged to Posey.
This exhibit will be expanded in the future and become a permanent exhibit of the future “Southeastern Utah Museum of the American West” to be built in Blanding.
Plan to spend at least 20 minutes at the Blanding Visitors Center to learn a story from Posey’s interesting life and have time for refreshments.
