Students gather for history fair
Winners have been announced for the southeast Utah regional history fair.
In the junior high school division, the top group documentary is Battle of Iwo Jima by Dave Rose and Chase Chamberlain at ARL Middle School.
The top individual documentary is The Great Compromise by Janalee Weatherford at Monticello High. Adam Black is second.
In the high school division, the top group documentary is Women’s Sufferage by Jeannie Kirk, Joy Merhet and Teddy Royer of San Juan High. Second is Cassi Hosler, Kyle Johnson and Haven Webb of San Juan High.
The top individual documentary is America’s New Deal by Dane Hurst of San Juan High. Second is Nathan Begay of San Juan and third is Scott Reeve of Monticello.
The top exhibit in the junior high division is Utah Land Swap by Simone Shumway, Cortney Macdonald, Madison Parker and Kendra Parker of AL Middle School. Second is Robin Randall and Jamie Keys of Monticello. Third is Ashley Rogers and Sarah Walker of Monticello.
The top individual exhibit is Posey’s War by Clarissa Jack of Monticello. Second is Shelby Lewis of Monticello. Third is a tie between Alyson Anderson of Monticello and Bree Hosler of ARL Middle School.
In the high school division, the top group exhibit is From Uranium Mining to Downwind Disaster by Emily Hanson and Emmanuelle Reay of Monticello. Second is a tie between Devina Bitsinnie, Alicia Hatathle and Justine Cody of San Juan, and Sarah Manheimer, Losche Holliday and Paige Benally of San Juan. Third is Heather Meyer and Jill Black of San Juan.
The top individual exhibit is Daylight Bombing During World War II by Chase Randall of Monticello. Second is Connor Frost of Monticello. Third is Allison Montgomery of Monticello.
The top historical paper in the junior high division is Waking Up in a Nightmare by JJ Larsen. The top paper in the high school division is Uranium Mining in San Juan County: Compromising Safety for Prosperity? by Haley Parker of San Juan. Second is Linda Barton and third is Heather Holyoak, both of Monticello.
The top group performance is The Passion of Oppression by Kelly Davis and Jaydan Raisor of San Juan. The top individual performance is Utah’s Struggle for Statehood by Rhett Adair of Monticello.
Women’s Sufferage by Sara Greenway of Monticello was the top internet entry.
First and second place winners advance to the state history fair.
