State estimates 125 homeless in San Juan
There are 125 homeless residents in San Juan County, according to a new study released by the State of Utah.
The reports states that the number of chronically homeless on Utah’s streets has dropped 15 percent, despite growth in overall homelessness.
This year’s count pegs Utah’s annual chronically homeless population at 1,470, with San Juan County residents accounting to nearly ten percent of the state total. The study states that there are no chronically homeless residents in San Juan County.
Homeless estimates through the San Juan School District are that up to 25 percent of students in some southern schools meet the legal definition of homeless.
