Spring runoff begins

This year’s impressive runoff has begun in earnest above Recapture Reservoir. Here, at the Blanding Ditch takeout, water was several inches deep across the 25 foot spillway. The water which fills the three city reservoirs above Blanding has already been diverted and is not seen in this picture. With 22.8 inches of water still in the snow at Camp Jackson on the Abajo Mountains, water managers say all reservoirs in the county (except Lake Powell) will fill this spring. Thousands of acre feet of water may flow through the spillways at Recapture, Lloyds, Gordon, and other reservoirs in the county. Lake Powell is expected to rise nearly 50 feet this year because of heavy snowpack throughout most of the Colorado and Green River drainages in Wyoming, Colorado and Utah. Buckley Jensen
