Young runners lead Whitehorse teams at Loyds Lake Classic

The young athletes got it done for Whitehorse High School at the Loyds Lake Classic in Monticello on Friday, September 1. It was the Raiders’ first cross country meet of the season.
Freshman Keiarra Martin won the girls race outright, pacing the field with an impressive 20:02.0 time on the challenging 3K course. Sophomore Heidi Clark was second for the team and 16th place overall in 23:09.3.
Freshman Hannah Clark was fourth for the Lady Raiders and 21st overall with a time of 24:36.9. And ten seconds behind, sophomore Lamyia Benally rounded out the team top five in 23rd overall.
Among the top five finishers for the Whitehorse boys were three freshmen and one sophomore. Freshman Elam Etsitty led the team in 13th with a time of 18:22.9. Fellow freshman Ethan Begay was 31st overall in 19:44.1
Sophomore Lance Tsinigine was the fourth finisher among the Raiders, crossing the line in 22:36.1 for 46th overall. And freshman Riley Benallie finished in 23:51.3 in 51st overall.
The girls team finished a very solid third behind event champion Grand Junction Central and Monticello while the boys finished seventh as a team.
Other finishers for the Whitehorse boys included junior Lyrell Primeaux, in third for the team and 45th overall with a time of 22:33.5. Junior Robryan Tapaha was 55th overall in 24:32.3 and freshman Brayden John was 56th with his time of 26:02.3.
Shunbaah Begay, the only senior on either team, was third for the Lady Raiders and 17th overall with a time of 23:30.7. Freshman Harmony Thomas completed the course in 27:38.9, finishing 39th, and junior Meagan Morgan was 48th with her time of 30:49.4.
The Whitehorse cross country team is back in action on Saturday, September 9 at the Miyamura Invitational in Gallup, NM.
