Whitehorse, Monument Valley cross country at Loyds Lake Classic
Friday, September 3 was a busy day for Whitehorse and Monument Valley middle and high school runners.
Whitehorse’s Martin Keiarri literally ran away with the middle school girls race, finishing almost 30 seconds ahead of the second-place competitor on the 1.5-mile course.
In the boys middle school race, Josiah Gipe from Monument Valley also finished in the top ten, racing to an eighth-place finish.
In the high school girls junior varsity division, Heidi Thomas and Lamiya Benally from Whitehorse finished first and second. In the boys JV division, the Raiders finished with four top-20 performances.
They were led by Weston Manygoats in first, Keeyah Begay in sixth, Nicholas Pelt in 19th, and Robryan Tapaha in 20th.
In the girls varsity division, two runners from Monument Valley finished with impressive races. Lilliana Fatt, a junior, finished in 16th and Caitlyn Yazzie, also a junior, finished in 19th.
Next up for both the Whitehorse and Monument Valley teams is the Pinnacle High School Invitational in Price next Monday, September 13.
