Whitehorse football falls in opener ready to bounce back in week two

The Whitehorse Raiders lost their opening game of the season to last year’s 1A 8-player finalist Milford Tigers on August 14.
Milford jumped out to a quick 18-0 lead in the first quarter but the Raiders did respond in the late afternoon sun.
On a second down at the 20-yard line, Junior Quarterback Tyrell Black threw a pass twenty yards through the air to an open Senior Adam Joe. 
Joe raced down the sideline sidestepping one tackler and threw off another would-be tackler for an 80-yard touchdown. Junior Hunter Tsinigine added the point after the kick. Making the score 18-7 in the first quarter.
Milford’s explosive offense continued to respond though, building a 38-7 lead in the first quarter with a halftime score favoring Milford 52-7. Per the new UHSAA mercy rule a 44-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter triggered the end of the game.
Whitehorse is home again this Friday, August 21 against St Joseph. The Jayhawks dropped a close game to Altamont to open the season with both teams looking for their first win early in the season. Kickoff is set for 7:00.
