Whitehorse boys defeat Monument Valley to advance to state tournament

The Whitehorse Raiders boys basketball team defeated the Monument Valley Cougars 100-33 in the first round of the 1A Utah state basketball tournament.
The first-round game was played in Montezuma Creek on February 22.
The #12 ranked Raiders jumped to a 52-26 halftime lead before cruising on to defeat the #21 ranked Cougars.
Whitehorse was led by freshman Hyatt Thomas who finished the game with 30 points including five three-point shots made. Senior Kalin Tohonnie scored 13 points, junior Elam Etsitty scored 12 points, Etsitty shot five of six from the free throw line for an efficient 83-percent from the charity stripe.
Senior Dominic Dance and Sophomore Adam Joe each had 10 points in the win, while junior Aiden Hamm scored eight.
Kaleb Joe and Tristan Black each scored five, Lysyle Phillips scored four and Brayden John had three points in the win for the Raiders.
The win put the Raiders record to 11-11 on the year, Whitehorse finished third in Region 19. The game also ended the season for the Monument Valley Cougars who finished in fifth in Region 19 play.
