Whitehorse boys and girls cruise to easy wins

The Whitehorse boys and girls basketball teams played four games in a fairly busy past week, picking up two wins apiece along the way.
On Wednesday, January 15 both teams were victorious over the Rough Rock Sun Devils of Chinle, AZ. The boys won all four quarters to take down their opponents easily 73-42.
Four Raiders scored in double digits in the win with Adam Joe scoring 16 points, Dominic Dance and Hyatt Thomas 15 apiece, and Kalin Tohonnie ten.
Elam Etsitty added five points in the win, Jayden John four, Aiden Hamm and Kaleb Joe three each, and Taylen Miller two.
Whitehorse hit no less than nine three-pointers in the game. Thomas led the team with three while Tohonnie hit two. Kaleb Joe, Hamm, Etsitty, and Dance all got one apiece.
On Thursday, January 16 the Raiders hosted Pinnacle in a Region 19 showdown. They were terrible hosts as they dominated from start to finish, crushing the Panthers 79-39.
Tohonnie led Whitehorse scoring with 21 points, including five three-point buckets. Hamm scored 14 in the win with one three, and Thomas poured in 12 points with two three-pointers.
Joe scored seven points and Etsitty collected six. Brayden John, Riley Begay, Dance, and Tristan Black all got four apiece. Jayden John added three points in the game.
The Raiders broke a two-game losing streak with the wins. They’ve won three of their last five and are 7-7 on the year, good enough for 12th place in the 1A RPI standings.
The Whitehorse girls absolutely dominated the Lady Sun Devils and Lady Panthers this past week with an 87-14 win over Rough Rock on January 15 and a 62-19 victory over Pinnacle on January 16.
The Lady Raiders improved to 9-3 on the year with the wins. They’re 3-0 in Region 19 play and are ranked fifth in the most recent Utah 1A RPI standings.
Against Rough Rock Keiarra Martin scored an impressive 25 points to lead the team. Lamyia Benally poured in 16 and Hannah Clark got 15.
Kelaigha Nakai collected nine points in the win while Alyssa Eltsosie, Kaleigh Chee, and Lakyara Begay all got six apiece. Malia Sam rounded out the scoring with four points for Whitehorse.
Against Pinnacle four Lady Raiders scored in double digits. Clark collected 17 points, Martin and Benally hit for 13, and Clark got ten. Chee scored three in the win while Sam, Nakai, and Eltsosie all got two each.
This week the Whitehorse girls will travel to Blanding to take on San Juan on Wednesday, January 22. Both the girls and boys teams will host Monticello on Friday, January 24 and you can watch those games on StreamUtah.Live.
Then, on Monday, January 27 both teams welcome the Red Mesa Redskins of Teec Nos Pos, AZ to Montezuma Creek.
