Two San Juan girls tennis team doubles pairings conclude season at state tournament

Two doubles pairings concluded the season for the San Juan High School girls tennis team at the 3A Utah State Girls Tennis Tournament at Brighton High School on October 1.

Sadie Black and Kellyn Davis represented the Lady Broncos in first doubles play. Sariah Sweeten and Elsie Grover played in the second doubles bracket.

Black and Davis faced Manti’s Laney Larson and Marion Seely in their first-round matchup and they gave their opponents a run for their money in the first set.

The duo battled hard but fell by just two points 7-5. Larson and Seely capitalized on their momentum to down the San Juan girls in the second set 6-1, bringing their season to an end.

Like their teammates, Sweeten and Grover battled hard, but suffered a first round loss to Cora Barshied and Lisa Erokhina of The Waterford School 6-1 and 6-1.

The San Juan girls tennis team ends the season with 15 match wins. Senior Sariah Sweeten and freshman Elsie Grover led the team with seven of those victories in second doubles play.

Seniors Sadie Black and Kellyn Davis picked up three wins for the Lady Broncos this season in first doubles play.

Senior Evony Sampson also had three wins in first singles. And senior Jordan Jones had two wins in second singles play.
