Tough weekend for San Juan Bronco softball team with only three games left in 2022 regular season
The San Juan High School softball team entered the home stretch of the 2022 regular season this past weekend with three games at home – a 2A Central Region doubleheader against Duchesne Friday, April 22 and a non-region matchup with Grand County on Saturday, April 23.
Coming into their region games on Friday, Duchesne was the #1 team in 2A Utah softball with a 16-6 overall record.
The Eagles wasted no time displaying why that was the case, dispatching the Broncos 16-1 in game one and 14-1 in game two.
Duchesne held San Juan to just one hit in game one, a double for Halli Palmer. The lone Bronco run was scored by Kaeah Howard. In game two San Juan managed four hits and Bailey Brown was the only Bronco to cross the plate.
San Juan welcomed local rival Grand County to Blanding on Saturday, April 23. The Red Devils outhit the Broncos 13-3 and outscored them 19-5 for their third win over San Juan this season.
Naataanii Lacey and Sadie Cosby drove in a run apiece in the loss. Following the tough weekend the Broncos are 7-13 on the year, ranked #8 in the 2A RPI standings.
They’re down to their final three games of the regular season. They stay at home to take on North Summit in a 2A Central doubleheader this Friday, April 29. They close the regular season in one final meeting with Grand on Tuesday, May 3.
The 2A state tournament is set to begin Saturday, May 7.
