Strong showings for track and field teams in Price

Local high school athletes are running, throwing, and leaping all over the state as the 2026 track and field season is underway.
A state record was set at the Farm Bureau Invite at Carbon High in Price, Utah on Saturday, March 14. Monticello senior Marlee Mack jumped 18 feet, 0.5 inches to win the girls long jump.
That mark surpasses the previous 1A girls state record by more than four inches. The former record was 17 feet, eight inches, set in 2024.
The meet also saw a mark that is the best in the state in any classification so far this season in the high jump. 
San Juan senior Tripp Palmer cleared the bar at six feet, seven inches in the high jump to set the top mark in Utah for the season.
Palmer also holds the second-best long jump in the state in any classification this season with a mark of 21-2.75, which he also set at the meet in Price. 
The San Juan boys finished fourth as a team, scoring 94 points. Points are earned by the top eight finishers in each event. The Broncos were led by Tripp Palmer who won the javelin in addition to both jumping events.
Cash Palmer finished first in the shot put and second in the discus. Andrew Nielson was second in both the 110-meter hurdles and 300 hurdles while teammate Brigg Palmer won the 110 hurdles and Kooper Laws was fifth in that event.
Gaige Palmer was sixth in the shot put and Ryan Shumway seventh in the javelin. Jeraden Hurst finished seventh in the 3200 with James Gosney taking eighth in the same race.
The Broncos’ 4x100 meter relay team finished fourth, with Miken Keith, Andrew Nielson, Brigg Palmer, and Quincy Singer running the relay.
The boys medley relay was sixth, with Max Stearns, Landon Turk, Keegan McCullough, and Rosendo Martine.
The Monticello boys finished eighth as a team with 35 points at the Farm Bureau Invite.
Leading the way for the Buckaroos was Brandt Mack, finishing second in the high jump and fourth in the 300 hurdles. Kord Young took third in the high jump and Eli Carling was fifth in the 3200.
In the 300-meter hurdle finals, Seth Taylor finished sixth and Kooper Nielson was eighth. Cash Mack also finished eighth in the long jump.
Monticello was fifth in both relays. The 4x100 team has Jaeden Camacho, Brandt Mack, Cash Mack, and Kord Young, while the medley relay includes JJ Dekorreon Sanders, Dalton Adams, Miles Coleman, and Linden English.
Whitehorse finished with five points, coming from the medley relay team. They finished fourth with the best time among the local schools. Runners included Tristan Black, Ethan Chee, Riley Benallie, and Elam Etsitty.
The Monticello girls collected 52 points to finish in sixth place as a team. Marlee Mack won the long jump and 300 hurdles. She was third in the 100 hurdles and sixth in the 100-meter dash.
Maron Freestone finished fourth in the high jump, fifth in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, and seventh in the 400-meter dash. Lay Peterson was seventh in the 300-meter hurdles while Allie Carling was eighth in the 3200.
The girls were fourth in the sprint medley relay with Lariah and Latalia O’Harra, Myah Lewis, and Allie Carling.
The Lady Bucks were also eighth in the 4x100 with Lariah and Latalia O’Harra, Myah Lewis, and Lay Petersen.
The San Juan girls were seventh at the meet with 49 points. Sincere Nez led the team with a second-place finish in the 3200 and third in the 1600.
Aspyn Ivins was third in the 300 hurdles with Sadie Palmer third in the javelin. Myra Zohnnie was fifth in the javelin. Faith Flannery was seventh in the high jump. Keezie Flannery was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles and eighth in the high jump.
The Lady Broncos finished third in the medley relay with Addison Helquist, Sadie Palmer, Ada Lyman, and Sincere Nez. They were fifth in the 4x400 with Lucy Black, Faith Flannery, Navy Nieves, and Havyn Pehrson. They took sixth in the 4x100 with Keezie Flannery, Addison Helquist, and Adison Ivins. 
The Whitehorse girls earned three points with a sixth-place medley relay finish. Running in that event were Alejuandria and Laylah Benally, Keiarra Martin, and Maria Yellowman.
