Solid performances for San Juan track and field team net fifth-place finish at Eastern UT Champ

The San Juan High School track and field team scored a combined 91.5 points to finish fifth at the Eastern Utah Championship in Price on Friday, April 21.
The boys team earned 59.5 of those points, coming home fourth in their division. The girls added 32 points, which was good enough for seventh place.
Individually Leah Castellon and Edward Lyman shared top honors with their second-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and 800-meter race respectively, earning eight points each for their teams.
Castellon also finished third in the girls 300 hurdles for an additional six points and Lyman got sixth in the boys 1600 for three more.
Castellon was also part of the girls 4x100 team that finished sixth for three points. Other members of that team included Addi Helquist, Josie Lott, and Reaghan Laws.
Other third-place finishers who earned six points apiece for their teams include Zack Conway in the 100- and 200-meter races; Savannah Richmond in the girls shot put; the boys 4x100 team of Brigham Nielson, Tyler Pehrson, Zack Conway, and Tayden Mark; and the boys 4x400 team of Lynnox Benn, Brigham Nielson, Tayden Mark, and Edward Lyman.
Brigham Nielson finished fourth in the boys 300-meter hurdles, earning five points for the Broncos. Finishing fifth was Brigham Nielson in the 110 hurdles, Keezie Flannery in the girls high jump, Hudson Whatcott in the boys long jump, and Callen Burke in the boys shot put. Those athletes all earned four points each for San Juan.
The girls 4x400 team of Chloe Palmer, Meagan Palmer, Reaghan Laws, and Addi Helquist came home in sixth place, earning three points, as did Jared Burke in the boys javelin.
Hudson Whatcott tied for sixth place in the boys high jump, earning 2.5 points. Finishing seventh for two points was Reaghan Laws in the girls 400 meter and the boys sprint medley team of Lynnox Benn, Josiah LaPalmer, Tyler Pehrson, and Rosendo Martine.
This week the San Juan track and field team is making the short trip north from Blanding to Monticello to compete in the annual Blue Mountain Invitational. It’s Wednesday, April 26 with competition beginning at 3 p.m.
