Since dropping four games to start the month of September – two each to North Sevier and North Summit – with a win over Duchesne sandwiched in between, the San Juan High School volleyball team has been on a tear.
The Lady Broncos swept local rival Grand County on September 21, Gunnison Valley on September 29, and Duchesne on September 30. All three wins were in Region 15 and San Juan is now 9-7 on the year, ranked #9 in the 2A RPI standings.
If the season were to end right now the Lady Broncos would start the state tournament at home against Utah Military Academy - Hill Field. But there are still a lot of games to play and a lot can change before October 14.
Through 16 matches and 38 sets this season sophomore Morgann Mcpherson leads the team with 86 kills. Jaci Su’esu’e has 79, Keezie Flannery has 57, and Trinity Whatcott has 47 kills on the season.
Su’esu’e is tops among the Lady Broncos with 25 blocks so far this season. Lizzie Palmer has 23, Madden Perkins has 22, and Flannery has blocked ten opponent shots.
Su’esu’e also leads San Juan with a 94.2 serve percentage. She has served up 18 aces and scored 70 points with eight errors in139 attempts.
But Flannery leads the team with 115 points off of serves and 25 aces. She sports a 92.2 serve percentage with 192 attempts.
Averie Gilson is serving 90.4 percent with 14 aces and 47 points in 94 attempts. And Whatcott has a 90.1 percentage with 16 aces and 94 points in 162 attempts.
Gilson leads with 140 digs, Mcpherson and Flannery have 102 apiece, Whatcott has 95, Shaylin Nez has 48, and Su’esu’e has 36.
The Lady Broncos are set for a key three-day road trip to conclude this week. On Thursday, October 5 they’ll conclude the season series with Gunnison Valley in Gunnison.
Then they head to Richfield Friday and Saturday, October 6-7 for the 1A-2A Clash at the Sevier Valley Center. San Juan faces North Sanpete and Emery on Friday then Grantsville, Richfield, and an opponent TBD on Saturday.
