San Juan volleyball team begins 2021 reaching for their potential

The San Juan Bronco volleyball team only lost two seniors last year, great team leaders Sadie Brown and Jerika Torgerson. This year’s team has some experience under their knee pads and hopes to come out swinging. Their season begins this Thursday, August 19 at home against Grand.

Head coach Marci Black has briefly stepped back to allow assistants Allyson Anderson and Jayleen Torgerson take the lead at least for the beginning of the season.

Anderson said the amount of experience playing at the varsity level should be an advantage for this year’s seniors.

“That’s one thing you can’t coach – experience. Because our team was so young last year we have a lot of returning players that will add strength to our team,” Anderson explained.

She expects the seniors to step up, lead, and give it their all this season. “More Better!” is their theme this year.

Anderson said the team has been working on passing and not letting balls drop. “There is always room for improvement in every aspect. Consistent and competitive serving would be a great asset to our team if we work hard.”

When asked what they hope to accomplish as a team this season, Anderson said, “We want our girls to be successful on and off the court. We want them to see that hard work pays off and everyone working together is better than everyone working individually.”

The team has already seen some of their upcoming competition at summer tournaments and that should push them to reach for their potential. We look forward to watching their 2021 season unfold.
