San Juan girls tennis duo advances in 3A state tournament

The San Juan High School girls tennis duo of Amelia McFarland and Shayli Bake, both juniors, defeted Stella Kessell and Theresa Legler of Wasatch Academy 6-2 and 6-3 this past Saturday, September 30 in the first round of first doubles play at the 2023 3A Utah State Tennis Tournament in Mt. Pleasant.
Suffering a loss in their Round of 32 match in second doubles play was Markie Bowers and Emily Pugh, 6-2 and 7-5 to the team of Kylie Gordon and Aliya Torgerson from South Sevier High School.
Mcfarland and Bake advance to play in the Round of 16 against Ainsley Moore and Frances Hodson of Rowland Hall this Friday, October 6 at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City.
If they can get past Rowland Hall, they’ll continue play into the state quarterfinals with the semifinal and final rounds set for Saturday, October 7.
