It was a light week for the San Juan High School girls basketball team with just one game against the rival Grand County Lady Red Devils in Moab on Thursday, January 16.
The Lady Broncos started strong, opening with a 14-13 lead after one quarter. But they struggled in the second frame, scoring just seven points to fall behind 28-21 at halftime.
San Juan came out of the locker room for a nice third quarter, outscoring Grand 13-5 to regain the lead and take a 34-33 advantage into the final frame.
The Lady Red Devils exploded for 23 fourth-quarter points however, stunning the Lady Broncos in a 56-47 final.
Khimya Fullwood earned a double-double in the loss for San Juan with a team-high 18 points and ten rebounds. Hayden Shumway scored 16 points in the game and pulled down seven boards.
Kaidence Mitchell poured in eight points and had 11 rebounds for the Lady Broncos. Syndel Atcitty and Daveigh Mitchell scored two points each, and Madi Adams got one.
San Juan is 5-10, ranked 17th in the 2A RPI. They’re looking to get back in the win column when they host the Whitehorse Lady Raiders on January 22.
The team will finish off a busy week at home January 24 and 25 against Region 15 opponents Gunnison Valley and North Sevier.
