San Juan earns second place in 2A All-Sports Awards, Monticello finishes fifth in 1A

San Juan High School teams combined to earn second place in the Utah 2A classification this season in the Deseret News 2025-26 All-Sports Awards competition.
The Broncos won state championships in football and boys track and field, tallying 69 total points to finish just one point behind North Summit. The Braves scored 70 points to earn their first All-Sports Award since the 2015-16 season.
In addition to their two state championships, San Juan collected five more top-three finishes in their runner-up season. They took second in boys cross country, baseball, and softball with third-place performances in volleyball and girls wrestling.
They were fourth in boys wrestling and girls cheer, sixth in girls cross country, tied for seventh in boys and girls basketball, and eighth in girls track and field.
The Broncos won the 2A boys All-Sports competition this season, scoring 41.5 points. Waterford was second with 35.5 points and American Heritage was third with 33.5.
The Utah 2A classification was extremely competitive, with 14 different schools winning at least one state championship and 11 schools reaching the 50-point threshold – the most of any classification.
The annual All-Sports Award, which the Deseret News has released every year since 1979 except for 2020, denotes the top overall athletic program in each of the six Utah classifications.
Schools earn points for placing in the top eight at state in UHSAA sanctioned events. Ten points are awarded for a state championship, eight for second place, six for third, five for fourth, four for fifth, three for sixth, two for seventh, and one for eighth. Points are divided when teams tie.
Monticello teams earned 45 combined points to finish fifth in the 1A All-Sports standings. Panguitch won their 12th straight All-Sports Award with 95.5 points and Rich was second with 79 points.
A state championship in girls golf paced the Buckaroos. They also earned a pair of third-place finishes in boys cross country and girls track and field.
Monticello tied for third place in the 8-player football state tournament. They came home fourth in boys track and field, fifth in wrestling, sixth in competitive cheer, tied for sixth in softball, and seventh in boys golf and volleyball.
Whitehorse earned 11.5 points in the 1A competition with the boys tied for 3rd with a semi-final finish in 8-player football. The girls earned points with a fifth place finish in basketball and a seventh place finish in cross-country
Monument Valley teams earned five points with a fifth-place finish in girls wrestling and eighth in volleyball.
