San Juan Broncos track and field team captures solid sixth at Strata Invitational in Roosevelt

The San Juan High School boys track team scored 55 points to earn fifth place at the Strata Invitational in Roosevelt, UT this past Friday, April 14.
The girls scored 21 points to finish ninth and combined the teams had 76 points and came home sixth.
Though nobody brought home an individual championship the Broncos had 13 top-five performances at the event.
Zack Conway finished second in both the 100 meter and 200 meter, earning eight points in both cases, as did Hudson Whatcott with a six foot, two inch jump in the high jump.
The boys sprint medley relay team of Rosendo Martine, Josh Nielson, Lynnox Benn, and Josiah LaPalmer grabbed third place with a nice run of 4:14.77.
The boys 4x100 team of Brigham Nielson, Zack Conway, Josh Nielson, and Tyler Pehrson also performed strongly with a 46.71 finish that resulted in third place.
Brigham Nielson picked up a third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles, coming home in 44.71 to earn six points.
Hudson Whatcott earned third in the long jump with a jump of 19-11.5. And Magnum Nielson threw the javelin 147-02 to come home third in that competition.
Leah Castellon grabbed fourth-place finishes in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, in 17.35 and 55.31 respectively.
The girls 4x100 team of Leah Castellon, Meagan Palmer, Addi Helquist, and Reaghan Laws came home fourth with a 55.99 performance.
The girls 4x400 team consisting of Meagan Palmer, Reaghan Laws, Addi Helquist, and Chloe Palmer snagged fourth place with a run of 5:03.31.
And the boys 4x400 team of Lynnox Benn, Josiah LaPalmer, Josh Nielson, and Brigham Nielson came across the line in 4:07.47 which was good enough for fifth place.
This week the Broncos will battle in the Eastern Utah Championships at Carbon High School in Price on Friday, April 21.
Then they’ll make the short trip to Monticello on Wednesday, April 26 for the Blue Mountain Invitational.
