The Monticello Buckaroo wrestlers were back in action this past week following the winter break. They traveled to Aztec to take on the Tigers on Friday, January 6 before heading to Pagosa Springs, CO for the Rocky Mountain Invitational Saturday, January 7.
The 15-team Rocky Mountain Invite has long been considered one of the toughest tournaments of the season as it features several of the top schools in Colorado and New Mexico.
Senior Javlin Robison finished the day atop the podium with the championship medal. He put together three great matches with two wins by fall and a strong 9-2 win in the finals over his Pagosa Springs opponent.
Robison joins an elite group of Buckaroo wrestlers who have earned the top honor from this tournament.
Treydon Harris and Camren Carpenter each brought home fourth-place hardware, each earning a win by fall. Rounding out the medal winners was freshman Landon Shumway with two wins by fall and an 11-4 victory to claim sixth place.
Also earning wins by fall for the Buckaroos were Zac Thayn, Chandler Henderson, and Tavon Black. Tyson Wheeler had a 20-5 technical fall win and Ronnie Harris earned an exciting 8-7 win on a last-second takedown.
At Aztec the Buckaroos were 4-5 in head-to-head matches. Landon Shumway earned a win by fall, Ronnie Harris earned a 15-9 victory and Javlin Robison earned a victory by fall for the Buckaroos.
Aztec won matches over Treydon Harris, Zac Thayn, Tavon Black and Camren Carpenter. In exhibition matches Tyson Wheeler earned a win by fall and Thomas Fullmer was defeated.
