Region 19 teams play nine games including Battle of the Drum

Region 19 basketball teams played nine games over the past week as the season nears its end. The key rivalry game of the week was the Battle of the Drum on January 26 in Monument Valley.
In the boys matchup, the Raiders defeated the Cougars 60-58. The Raiders led 32-31 at halftime, with the teams tied 43-43 after three quarters. The Raiders were able to pull out the win 60-58.
Whitehorse was led in the game by Lyric Phillips who had 30 points in the game. Larenz Tsosie scored 15 points for the Raiders in the win. Adam Joe scored seven points, with Dominic Dance scoring four and Tristan Black and Kaleb Joe each scoring two points in the win.
In the girls matchup the Monument Valley Cougars defeated the Whitehorse Raiders 73-48. Monument Valley was led by Nevaeh Wilson who scored 29 points in the game. Precious Bedonie scored 18, while Shikeeya Hudson had 11 points. Shimequa Hudson scored nine, While Mariah Begaye had five and Malaya Blackmountain scored one point.
Prior to the Battle of the Drum the Monument Valley girls defeated Red Mesa 61-41 on January 23. Wilson led scoring with 21 points. Begaye and Shimequa Hudson both scored ten points, while Shikeeya Hudson scored eight and Bedonie had seven. Blackmountain had three and LeighAn Atene scored two points.
The Monument Valley boys defeated Red Mesa 71-49 on January 23. The Cougars were led by Braxton Goodshield who had 27 points in the game. Joshua Hicks scored 20 and Melias Cly had 13 for MVHS. Brice Goodshield scored nine, while Akecheta Shortman scored two points.
The Whitehorse boys were defeated by Green River 78-58 in a region matchup on January 23. The Raiders led 35-24 at halftime but fell behind in the second half to lose their second region matchup of the year.
The Raiders were led in scoring by Phillips who had 28 points. Adam Joe and Kalin Tohonnie each scored nine points in the game. Tsosie scored seven, while Kaleb Joe scored three and Black had two.
The Monticello boys and girls both fell to Dove Creek on January 23rd. The girls were beat 46-24, while the boys lost on a buzzer beater 31-29.
Both Monticello teams earned region wins over Pinnacle on January 26. Monticello girls earned a 31-25 win, while the boys won 46-38.
The Lady Buckaroos were led by Kenlee Atwood who had 12 points in the game, Kahryme Alvarado added seven points while Jemma Robison scored five. Maekenna Peterson scored four, while Braylee Freestone had three points.
Monticello was led in scoring by Curtis Bunker who had 24 points, Traken lee scored seven while JD McDonald and Mason Atwood each had four points. Kaden Pehrson scored three while Kooper Nielson and Jackson Keyes each had two points in the win.
