Monument Valley hosted Altamont on August 31 in a mid-week football matchup, falling to the Longhorns 50-8. With the loss the Cougars dropped to 0-2 on the year.
Altamont jumped out to a 22-0 lead in the first half. Near the end of the first quarter, Cougar Melias Cly forced a Longhorn fumble, giving Monument Valley the ball near the 35-yard line.
On the following play, Cly picked up a big gain on a 35-yard catch from quarterback Doreon Chee. On second down, Chee threw a pass to the end zone just out of the reach of Shayden Fatt. Following a few near-miss pass attempts the Cougars turned the ball over on downs.
Altamont responded by scoring a few more touchdowns, increasing their lead to 44-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Longhorns scored again but on their next offensive possession, Neveah Wilson recovered a fumble, setting the Cougars up in great field position at the 20 yard line.
On the next possession, Chee found Joshua Hicks for a 25-yard touchdown pass. Chee ran in a successful two-point conversion attempt to make the score 50-8 in the third quarter. That score held through the end of the game.
Monument Valley plays next at Shiprock at 7 p.m. this Friday, September 9.
