Monticello wrestlers close 2021 with a win

The Monticello Buckaroo wrestlers closed out the 2021 portion of their season hosting the Monument Valley Mustangs from Kayenta, AZ on Tuesday, December 21.

MHS dominated the dual with a 39-18 win. Joseph T. Harris led off for the Buckaroos and fought hard but was unable to defeat his Mustang opponent.

Zac Thayn put the first win on the board for the Buckaroos, winning by fall in the first period. Josh Wheeler battled hard for six minutes to put a 7-3 win up for the Bucks.

Javlin Robison earned another win by fall for Monticello to put the team up 15-6. Tyson Wheeler worked hard but was defeated by fall. Seniors Tylo Thayn and Logan Draper dominated their opponents, each putting up first period wins by fall.

Thomas Fullmer and Oakley Adams added two more wins by fall for the Bucks. Cameren Carpenter closed out the night with a good effort despite a loss.

With the first half of the season in the rearview mirror, the Buckaroos have just a few weeks left in the season before the Division Tournament.

The team will start the new year Thursday, January 6 when they host the Aztec Tigers in a dual meet at Monticello High School.
