Monticello volleyball team wins three of five in past two weeks, sits third in 1A standings

The Monticello High School volleyball team won three of the four matches they played in the past two weeks, improving to 8-4 on the season. They’re ranked third in the most recent 1A RPI standings behind Monument Valley and Panguitch.
The Lady Buckaroos have won five of their last six matches, and one of those came on September 17 against the then-fifth-ranked Lady Cougars in Monument Valley. It was an exciting match that went the distance to five sets.
Monticello took the first set 25-19, but Monument Valley rallied to win sets two and three 25-19 and 25-17. The Lady Bucks dug deep to take set four 25-18. In the fifth and deciding set, Monticello outlasted the Lady Cougars for a hard-fought 15-10 win.
On September 19 the team traveled to Moab where they suffered a straight-sets loss to the Grand County Lady Red Devils.
This past Tuesday, September 24 the Lady Bucks bounced back for a 3-0 win at Whitehorse. They cruised to the win over the Lady Raiders 25-10, 25-13, and 25-13.
On Thursday, September 26 Monticello swept Green River at home 25-6, 25-22, and 25-5. The competition is going to get a little more challenging over the course of the next week.
On Tuesday, October 1 they traveled to Blanding to take on the rival San Juan Lady Broncos. Tuesday, October 8 they host the Dove Creek Lady Bulldogs looking to split that season series. On Thursday, October 10 they’ll visit 1A #4 Valley.
