Monticello track team gets solid effort in Price, will host Region 19 meet

The Monticello High School track and field team hopped in team buses this past Friday, May 3 and headed 170 miles north to Price where Carbon High School was hosting the 2024 Dino Tracks meet.
With 34 schools in attendance and 658 athletes competing the action was intense, and there were numerous exciting performances throughout the event.
The Monticello girls had an excellent day, scoring 26 points to finish fifth behind a dominant North Summit team that scored 135 points, Carbon, North Sanpete, and Kanab.
The Buckaroo boys collected 16 points to take 11th, and the teams combined for tenth place with their 42 total points.
Marah Long and Nial Reay led the way for MHS with the team’s two individual championships on the day. Long won the girls 3200-meter race with a time of 12:46.65.
Reay won the discus with his throw of 141 feet, five inches, 17 feet farther than the throw from second-place finisher Koda Bridges of Panguitch.
Kyleigh Adair put together a solid performance in the shot put with her effort of 29-0.5, good enough for fourth place. Ayla Carling was fifth in the girls 1600 in 5:58.74 and the Lady Bucks’ 4x400 team of Grace Coleman, Lay Petersen, Ayla Carling, and Maron Freestone were also fifth with their time of 4:42.99.
Jesse Pettit took sixth in the boys 1600-meter race and the girls sprint medley team of Grace Coleman, Marah Long, Lay Petersen, and Madison Adair was sixth in 4:51.23.
Tavon Black came home seventh in the boys 200-meter dash with a 23.76 and Josh Morrison finished eighth in the long jump with a jump of 19 feet, 3.25 inches.
Following her strong performance in the sprint medley, Madison Adair concluded her weekend with a trip up to Provo on Saturday, May 4 where she finished 108th in a highly competitive girls discus event with her throw of 75-10.0.
The Buckaroos return home this week to host the Region 19 Championships on Wednesday, May 8 as the 2024 postseason officially gets underway.
The 2024 Utah State Track and Field Championships are set for next Thursday through Saturday, May 16-18 at BYU’s Clarence F. Robison Track and Field Stadium.
