Monticello track gets ninth in Price

The Monticello High School track and field team scored 32 combined points to finish ninth at the Eastern Utah Championship in Price this past Friday, April 21. The boys team collected 18 points to finish in ninth and the girls scored 14, coming home in tenth.
Robert Morrison got the best individual performance for the Buckaroos with his 20-06.75 in the boys long jump, falling just four inches short of Duchesne’s Brody Jacobs to finish second and earn his team eight points.
Monticello got three fourth-place finishes at the event with each collecting five points. Berlynn Black in the long jump, the boys sprint medley team, and the girls sprint medley team of Berlynn Black, Rosy Beh, Lilli Burton, and Marah Long.
Marah Long got seventh in the girls 800-meter race to earn two points for the Buckaroos. Robert Morrison finished seventh in the 200 and the boys 4x100 team of Tavon Black, Ronnie Harris, Easton Young, and Seth Taylor also got seventh.
Rounding out the point-scoring places Ayla Carling finished eighth in the girls 800, Jesse Pettit crossed the line eighth in the boys 3200, and the girls 4x100 team of Rosy Beh, Cami Dowell, Aubrey Black, and Makenna Peterson was also eighth.
Now that Monticello has finally thawed out from the magnanimous winter the Buckaroo track and field team is finally ready to host a home meet.
They’ll welcome Grand County, Monument Valley, Navajo Mountain, San Juan, and Whitehorse to town for the Blue Mountain Invitational this Wednesday, April 26 with competition beginning at 3 p.m.
