Monticello golf teams conclude regular season, prep for state championship match

The Monticello High School girls and boys golf teams both concluded their regular seasons with a Region 19 match at the Carbon Country Club in Price on Monday, May 4.
As they have all season long both Buckaroo squads were victorious. The girls shot a team score of 412 which is their second-best round of the season and beat their first round at the Carbon Country Club on April 9 by 21 strokes.
LE Olson carded her best round of the season with a very impressive 79. Rebecca Chamberlain came in with a 100, Jane Burton shot 106, Cailyn Harrod carded a 127, and Alice Butler shot 130.
The Lady Buckaroos shot their best round of the season this past Thursday, April 30 at the Hideout Golf Course. Home course advantage was a real thing when they scored 409 as a team.
In their second home match of the season LE Olson led the way with a round of 82. Rebecca Chamberlain shot a 100, Jane Burton got a 103, Alice Butler 124, Cailyn Harrod a 127, and Jamie Vess a 146.
The Monticello girls are the top team in the Utah 1A, leading Rich by a slim margin of 1.82 strokes in the average adjusted score. Wayne is in third 6.68 strokes behind the Lady Bucks.
LE Olson is the leading individual girls golfer in the 1A ranks with her season average of 85.15 strokes ahead of Wayne’s Bree Torgerson who is averaging 92.57 strokes.
Jane Burton is eighth in the 1A with an average of 105.39 strokes. Rebecca Chamberlain is right behind in ninth with a season average of 105.66.
The boys team shot their best round of the season with a 356 at the Carbon Country Club on Monday. Canyon Christensen led the way with a season-best 83.
Jackson Keyes scored 86 for the round. Kooper Nielson shot a 91, John Leber carded a 96, JJ Atwood got a 100, and Ryan Holt shot a 103.
The Buckaroos have enjoyed the Carbon Country Club this season. They shot their second-best round of the season at the same course on April 9 with a 360.
In that round Kooper Nielson led the way with his best round of the season, an 85. Jackson Keyes shot an 88, Canyon Christensen carded an 89, Ryan Holt scored 98, JJ Atwood 106, and John Leber 117.
The Monticello boys are eighth in the Utah 1A with a season team average of 371.49 strokes. Canyon Christensen leads the team individually with an average of 85.45 strokes, good enough for 14th in the 1A ranks.
Jackson Keyes is 21st in the 1A with his average of 89.33 strokes. Kooper Nielson is 28th with a season average of 91.34 strokes.
The 2026 1A Utah State Golf Tournament is set for Tuesday and Wednesday, May 12-13 at the Rose Park Golf Course in Salt Lake City.
The girls are looking for their third state championship in four seasons and the boys are trying to win their first since 1979.
