Heading into the final week of the regular season the San Juan High School girls soccer team was 8-7, ranked 12th in the Utah 2A standings. The Lady Broncos suffered losses in two of the three games they played in that seven-day period.
On Tuesday, September 30 they brought home their ninth win of the season however, with a 3-1 victory at South Sevier.
Jaynie McNaughtan, Evie McCullough, and Ari Adams all scored for San Juan and Colee Crofts made 13 saves as they put away their 2A South Region opponents. The win increased the Lady Broncos’ most-wins-in-a-season record to nine games.
On Thursday, October 2 the team traveled to Millard where they were shut out 5-0 by the Lady Eagles in another region matchup.
Though they didn’t find the back of the net McCullough had five shots in the game, Adams had two, and several other players had one shot apiece. Crofts made eight saves in the losing effort.
San Juan closed out their regular season and region schedule in Moab on Monday, October 6 against the rival Grand County Lady Red Devils.
The Lady Broncos battled hard in a tight game that was scoreless until Grand netted the game-winning goal in the second half for a 1-0 final.
San Juan finishes the regular season with a 9-9 overall record. They were 4-4 in Region 18 play. The girls enter the 2025 Utah State Tournament this Wednesday, October 15 as the 12th seed and are looking for a big upset win against #5 Rowland Hall in Salt Lake City.
The Lady Winged Lions come into the match with a 9-6 overall record. They were 1-5 in Region 17 this season.
It should be a fun match starting at 4 p.m. this Wednesday with the upstart Lady Broncos looking to advance to the state quarterfinals.
If they can defeat Rowland Hall they would likely face #4 Maeser Prep in Lindon, UT this Saturday, October 18.
