Preparing for their region meet in just two weeks, the San Juan High School cross country team traveled to Mt. Carmel Junction, UT for the Kanab Invitational against all of their region foes.
The meet also served as a preview of the region course at the Thunderbird Golf Course. Just under 5K, the course features rolling hills and a terrain of both dirt and grass.
Bronco Edward Lyman kept his winning streak alive with his third straight first-place finish and his fourth this season with a time of 17:14.
Lyman, a talented athlete who has had an outstanding season, currently ranks in the top five athletes in the region and top ten in the 2A classification.
Ryan McCullough came in next for San Juan and placed tenth with a time of 18:22. McCullough smashed his 2021 best on the Thunderbird course by over a minute.
Abe Lyman and Toby Ward followed for the Broncos. Lyman finished 13th in 18:47 and Ward finished 19th in 19:15. Both athletes beat their previous bests on the course.
Noah Begay finished next in 25th with a time of 19:47. He was followed by Rosendo Martine in 28th with a time of 20:10.
Martine, a freshman who has shown rapid and steady growth this season, secured himself a spot on the varsity team for the first time in his career with his skilled performance.
Rounding out the varsity finishers was Austin Pincock in 29th with a time of 20:11. Pincock, along with the rest of the Broncos, combined to earn a third-place team finish that trailed first-place Enterprise by only nine points.
The girls team was led to a fourth-place finish by senior Saylor Perkins who placed 24th overall, finishing with a time of 28:11.
Close behind Perkins in 25th was Taryn Nielson with a time of 28:25. Nielson had an especially stellar performance and beat her 2021 Kanab Invite time by over four minutes.
Coming in 31st, 32nd, and 34th were Megan Black, Rose Kartchner, and Jessie Black with times of 30:32, 30:35, and 31:30.
The 2A Region 19 Championship is set for Wednesday, October 19 once again at the Thunderbird Golf Course.
