Buckaroos split games in Dolores, Colorado

The Monticello Buckaroos boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Colorado for a match-up with the Dolores Bears on February 4.
The boys earned a 75-57 win over Dolores in an impressive offensive outing.
The Bucks were led by senior Kaden Pehrson who finished the game with 28 points. Sophomore Cache Young scored 16 and junior Jackson Keyes scored 14 for Monticello. Traken Lee scored eight while Kooper Nielson had seven and Tommy Morrison had two.
Pehrson finished the game with a double-double earning 10 rebounds for Monticello, while Nielson grabbed nine. Nielson also led the team with seven assists in the game. Pehrson also recorded two steals and two blocks for the Bucks in the game.
In the girls basketball contest the Bucks battled hard with the Bears. In the last 20 seconds of regulation Makenna Peterson hit a huge three-point shot from straight-away to make the score 31-31. In the overtime period Monticello battled hard but came up short 42-39 even with three key players fouled out of the game.
Monticello was led by Maron Freestone who scored 12 points, Peterson who scored 10, and Mechaiyah Lansing adding seven. Braylee Freestone and Rolena Lansing each had two points in the game.
The Buckaroo boys basketball team also suffered a loss to San Juan on February 5 by a score of 68-44. Find additional information in the San Juan story on this page.
Monticello’s senior night was February 11 against Monument Valley after the San Juan Record print deadline.
The Buckaroos close out the season with a road trip to Pinnacle in Price on February 13. If you can’t make the games at 5:30 and 7:00 pm you can catch them on 92.7 FM and StreamUtah.Live.
