The Monticello High School golf team continues to lead the Region 23 standings following their third match of the season on Thursday, April 14 at the Carbon Country Club in Price.
The boys team came home with four of the top five individual performances in the match against region opponents Green River and Pinnacle Canyon and the girls accomplished the same.
Buckaroo Boston Freestone led the way as he has all season with an 80-stroke day for his best score of the year. Breckyn Hoggard was right behind for MHS with an 82.
Tyler Thayn scored a 109 and Donavan Atwood carded a 115. Green River’s Jarrett Guerrera spoiled the Buckaroos’ top-five sweep, sliding in with a 113.
On the girls side Amy Lewis and Pinnacle’s Avree Atwood tied for the top score of the day, with both shooting a 103. Buckaroos Alli Young, Cambree Chamberlain, and Kahryme Alvarado rounded out the top five with a 111, 113, and 114 respectively.
Other MHS scores on the day included Carter Harrod with a 128 and River Flynn with a 130 for the boys. Jade Nielson, Gabi Dowell, and Alise Lewis all shot 116 for the girls.
Through three rounds the Monticello boys are averaging 387 strokes per round as an eight-man team, nearly 100 strokes ahead of Green River and over 200 ahead of Pinnacle.
The Monticello girls lead Pinnacle by 40 strokes per round with an average of 463 among seven golfers. The Green River girls don’t have enough players this year to register a team score.
The Buckaroos will finally play their first home match of the season this week. They host the first of two matches at the Hideout Friday, April 22. The other is coming up on May 4.
