Buckaroo wrestlers get fifth

The Monticello High School wrestling team took to the mat for their first outing of the 2023-24 season at the Red Rocks Invitational in Moab this Friday and Saturday, December 1-2.
The Buckaroos had eleven members competing in the 11-team tournament and scored 194 points to finish fifth as a team.
Leading the way for MHS were senior Thomas Fullmer and sophomore Landon Shumway. At the end of the two-day tournament, both earned second-place medals.
Fullmer won four matches by fall and one by major decision and finished with just one loss. Shumway earned six wins by fall and had a decision on the way to a 7-1 record.
Sophomore Ronnie Harris earned a third-place medal for the Bucks with a 6-2 record, earning five wins by fall and one by major decision.
Senior Zac Thayn earned fourth place with a 5-3 record with four wins by fall. Also finishing fourth were freshmen Arturo Gutierrez and John Leber. Both earned a 4-3 record with Leber earning all four wins by fall and Gutierrez with one.
Senior Caleb Coleman earned two wins by fall in his first outing as a Buckaroo. Junior Jarum Robison earned a win by fall and freshman Anson Kendrick earned a win by fall.
New wrestlers sophomore Evan Carpenter and freshman Cruise Shumway both fought hard for the Buckaroos.
Monticello wrestled a dual at Norwood, CO on Tuesday, December 5. They're set for the Carbon Duals in Price this Friday and Saturday, December 8-9.
