Buckaroo cross country team hosts annual Loyds Lake Classic

Following an hour rain delay in Monticello this past Friday, September 3 the annual Loyds Lake Classic began under practically perfect running weather conditions.

Due to injury and illness the Monticello High School girls were once again unable to score as a team, but individually all three runners achieved a personal best.

Lilli Burton led the Lady Buckaroos with a second-place overall finish. Ayla Carling crossed the finish line in tenth place and Marah Long was close behind, taking 12th in her first race of the season.

The MHS boys came out fighting in Buckaroo fashion with six runners finishing in the top 20, helping to secure a second-place team finish. For the second week in a row, Boston Freestone came in ninth overall.

The trio of Kaden Pehrson, Curtis Bunker, and Jesse Pettit kept the team’s score low, finishing 11th, 12th, and 13th respectively.

Jacob Johnson and Josh Wheeler finished 17th and 18th. Soren Welch and Carter Harrod ran for the junior varsity team, crossing the finish line tenth and 26th respectively.

Both MHS teams are looking forward to the BYU Autumn Classic scheduled for this Saturday, September 11 at 9 a.m. at the East Bay Golf Course in Provo, UT.
