The Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) finalized realigned regions for competition on Thursday, December 15, with changes to take effect this coming fall and remain in effect through the 2024-25 school year.
In the changes that affect San Juan County schools, the 2A classification will consist of two regions in football and four in all other activities.
1A football will be split into two regions for 11-player with another for 8-player football and four regions for all other activities. 2A football is nearly unchanged in terms of size while the 8-player group grew by two schools.
In the new football classifications and regions the San Juan football team will remain in the 2A South with Delta, Emery, Grand County, and South Sevier.
Monticello, Monument Valley, and Whitehorse will play in the 8-player league with Altamont, Diamond Ranch, Rich, St. Joseph, Utah School of the Deaf and Blind, and Water Canyon.
In all other activities, San Juan will compete in 2A Region 15 along with Duchesne, Grand County, Gunnison Valley, North Sevier, and North Summit.
Monticello, Monument Valley, Navajo Mountain, and Whitehorse will all compete in 1A Region 19 with Green River, Lake Powell, and Pinnacle.
According to the UHSAA, schools may apply to be moved to a higher classification, and any of those applications will be considered at the next Board of Trustees meeting on January 19.
