Buckaroos have strong showing at 2A State Wrestling Tournament

The Monticello Buckaroo wrestlers closed out their season at the 2A State Tournament this past weekend in Richfield, UT.  A large crowd of Buckaroo faithful were on hand to cheer on the team in their first 2A State Tournament in many years.

With one of the smallest 2A teams, the Buckaroos knew they were in for an enormous challenge, but in true MHS fashion, they worked hard on the mat in every match.

The Buckaroos ended the weekend with four medal winners on the podium. Buckaroo senior Zach Cecil and junior Brevin Olson each earned fourth place medals from the tournament.

Senior Dillon Slack brought home a fifth place medal, and junior Tuff Adair earned a sixth place medal.

Cecil had a win by fall in round one before suffering a 14-6 loss that sent him to the consolation bracket where he earned a win by fall and a 6-2 victory to make his way to the consolation finals. He was defeated in a heartbreaker, 2-1.

Olson had wins by fall in each of the first two rounds. In the third round he battled to a 8-8 tie at the end of regulation, but was defeated in sudden victory in the close match.

Olson came back with a 15-point technical fall victory in the next round before being defeated in the consolation finals.

Slack had wins by fall in the first two rounds of the tournament. He suffered losses in the next two rounds, but battled back from behind in his medals match and won by fall to earn fifth in the bracket.

Tuff Adair earned a win by fall in round one and held on for an exciting 7-6 victory in the second round on his way to sixth place in his weight class.

Freshman Javlin Robison earned a win at the tournament with a 15-3 victory in the second round. Junior Robert Musselman had a win by fall in the first round of the tournament.

Also wrestling hard for the Buckaroos at the tournament were sophomores Tyler Thayn, Logan Draper, and Cameron Bailey and freshmen Josh Wheeler, Shane Lewis, and Oakley Adams.
