Buckaroo wrestlers dedicate season to Aaron Butler

The Monticello Buckaroo wrestling team had a second strong week with a big win over the Grand County Red Devils at home, a championship team trophy from the Moab Tournament, and an Outstanding Wrestler award.
On November 29, the Bucks hosted the Red Devils in their first dual of the season, putting on a great show while defeating the Grand team 54-12.
Prior to the match, Buckaroo Head Coach Kent Adair gave the crowd a brief history of Buckaroo champion and American hero Aaron Butler. Adair made a presentation to Aaron’s parents, Randy and Laura, and stated the team would dedicate their season to Aaron.
The team is striving to live up to Aaron’s example of working harder and being better.
Buckaroos Brevin Olson, Zac Musselman, Brayson Wilcox, Thomas Anderson, and Justin Cecil all earned exciting wins by fall. Paxton Christensen, Kayden Draper and Eldean Lammert were defeated.
In exhibition matches, Dillon Slack won by fall, and Steven Robinson was defeated. Mark Beh, Dillon Wheeler, and Gage Wilcox received forfeits.
Wyatt Fullmer also won big by a major decision. Steven Robinson and Seamis Barrell fought hard but were defeated by their opponents.
Mark Beh, Shandon Bradford, Paul DeAnda, Justin Cecil, Thomas Anderson and Parker Knudsen all received forfeits on the night.
Over the weekend, the Bucks travelled to the Moab Tournament where they brought home a first place finish from a field of 13 teams.
The Buckaroos bested second place Carbon by 25 points, with Gunnison Valley in third 42.5 points behind the Bucks, and San Juan in fourth.
In the A brackets, Zac Musselman, Brayson Wilcox, and Gage Wilcox were all perfect on the weekend, finishing undefeated and earning first place medals.
Musselman earned seven wins by fall, all in the first period, and earned the Outstanding Wrestler award for his efforts. Gage Wilcox earned six wins by fall. Brayson had two falls, two technical falls and decision.
Thomas Anderson earned a second place finish with five wins by fall and one loss. Kayden Draper also finished in second with a record of 5-1. Mark Beh rounded out the second place medals, with three wins and one loss.
Matt Beh earned a third place medal with four wins. Brevin Olson finished in fifth place with two wins by fall. Eldean Lammert finished in fifth with three wins, Justin Cecil finished sixth with two wins, and Dillon Wheeler finished in seventh place for the Buckaroos with a win by fall.
In the B brackets, Zach Cecil, Steven Robinson, Dillon Slack and Drew Westcott all earned a first place medal. Cecil was 6-0 with two falls, a major decision and two decisions. Robinson went 7-0 with four falls. Slack earned four wins by fall, and Westcott finished with four wins by fall.
Robert Musselman, Joe Morrison, Tuff Adair and Alan Pettit finished in second place. Pettit earned five wins by fall, Musselman had three wins by fall, and Morrison had six wins with five by fall. Adair had six wins, including four falls.
Clayton Young and Wyatt Fullmer finished third with Young 3-1 with two falls and an exciting sudden victory win, and Fullmer earned five wins by fall and two losses. Paxton Christensen placed fourth with a win by fall.
This weekend the Bucks travel to the Juab Tournament December 8 an 9.
The Buckaroos will host the Cortez Panthers next Wednesday, December 13 at 7 p.m. at MHS.
