Meet your Blue Mountain high school rodeo team

The Blue Mountain High School Rodeo Team just wrapped up a fantastic fall circuit where they had the opportunity to attend and compete at 16 rodeos all over the state of Utah.
What is the Utah High School Rodeo Association (UHSRA)? Well, it is one of the fastest growing youth organizations in high school sports.
The Association sanctions over 15 rodeos in the fall and another 15 in the spring, not including State Rodeos which are held in Heber City, UT and Nationals held in Rock Springs, WY.
The Association is governed by a board of directors and high school student officers.
UHSRA has a goal of promoting the sport of rodeo, the highest type of conduct and sportsmanship, and expose its positive image to the general public. They want to preserve the Western Heritage, offer a privilege of family bonding, and provide an opportunity for continuing education.
These are grateful youth that love speed and their animals. They are thankful to Kim Young, who has been their coach for the past four years, and Gayla Hart, who is always too willing to help.
They spend countless hours feeding, training, exercising, and practicing each week to be prepared for their weekend rodeos. They are also expected to maintain good grades and be in good standing at their schools.
Most weekends, these youth have to miss Fridays at school, so a lot of homework is done while on the road traveling to and from these events.
The action at high school rodeos is non-stop. Each event is packed with contestants trying to qualify for state and, more importantly, beat their own best records.
These rodeos include all 1A-6A schools and most events have well over 100 participants. Boys events include Bareback Riding, Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Tie-Down Roping, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, and Cutting.
Girls events include Breakaway Roping, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Goat Tying, Cutting, Team Roping, and a Queen contest.
Boys and girls compete together in Team Roping but are separate in all other events.
