Southeast Utah swimming in new pools

New swimming pools have opened in all three incorporated cities in southeast Utah. The new Blanding pool is the latest to open, with large crowds braving spring-like weather on May 21 to try out the new pool.
The opening was staged, with second grade students at Blanding Elementary School given the first shot… if they reached reading goals.
Final adjustments to the heating system and cold weather triggered a delay for the second graders.
The hitches in the system were resolved and students at Albert R. Lyman Middle School used the pool for the annual school triathlon on May 20.
While the triathlon has operated for two decades, the new pool location and race course meant everything else was new.
Customers to the Blanding pool can purchase a pass that can be used throughout the new Blanding Recreation Center.
It is a similar situation in Moab, where a new multi-million dollar pool and exercise facility opened this spring. The Moab facility includes an indoor pool open year round and an outdoor pool open during the warm months.
The new Monticello pool opened less than a year ago but is suddenly the oldest public pool in the area. It recently opened with a free swim day for elementary school students.
The pool operates six days a week and has a schedule full of options, including lap swim, free swim, swimming lessons, and swim party rentals.
