San Juan Record to host 10K race October 13

Get your running shoes (or your walking shoes) ready for the inaugural _San Juan Record_ 10K race on October 13.

The race will wind its way 6.2 miles through spectacular Indian Creek Canyon in the height of the fall colors.

The race course is identical to the 10K leg of the annual Blue Mountain to Canyonlands Triathlon, which is held each year in March.

The course is ideal for a 10K race, with a gentle downward slope and constantly turning road in front of you. The fall colors of the cottonwood trees should be stunning.

After discussing the idea of sponsoring a race for several years, we recently decided to stop waiting and get started on the first race this fall. The race is not possible without the assistance of the City of Monticello and San Juan County Visitor Services.
Future issues of the newspaper will have registration specifics and all the details. The race will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 13 near Newspaper Rock and wind 6.2 miles through Indian Creek Canyon.

The race fee is $20 with a Beefy Tee-shirt for preregistered racers ($25 at race time). The cost is $10 pregistered ($15 at the race) if you do not want a shirt.

There will be a host of awards in various racing categories, giving the fastest and even many of the slowest a chance to win an award.

Our in-house designer, Andrea Montgomery, is working on a great design for the shirts and awards that we hope will be the envy of your running friends.
