Missing 15-year-old found after one week
After a week of searching a missing Blanding teen was returned home healthy on April 8.
The 15-year-old boy, Ethan Brown, left his home on March 31 and was seen on April 1 at the Maverik gas station in Monticello.
According to reports from the San Juan County Sheriff’s office, the boy was reportedly at the gas station for about two hours where he was observed asking for rides toward Cortez or further east.
It took law enforcement a week to obtain the surveillance video from Maverik. When law enforcement was able to review the footage, Brown was shown seemingly voluntarily leaving with a couple in a truck pulling a distinctive fifth-wheel trailer.
The images did not capture the truck license plate, but photos of the couple, the truck, and the trailer were shared online on April 8, with results coming within hours.
The couple identified themselves and contacted authorities and the boy was handed over to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office in Albuquerque, NM.
Blanding resident Regan Richmond chartered a small plan to fly San Juan County Sheriff Lehi Lacy to New Mexico, where they were able to pick up Brown and reunite him with his family.
While there is an investigation underway, officials with the sheriff’s department described the situation as “fairly innocent”, with initial reports indicating there are no concerns of abuse or mistreatment and no arrests were made.
