San Juan County Search and Rescue
San Juan County Search and Rescue crews recently teamed with a State of Utah helicopter and EMTs to complete a highly technical rescue near Indian Creek canyon. A rock climber fell approximately 20 feet and shattered his ankles while climbing in a remote area six miles north of the Dugout Ranch. The state helicopter was nearby, on its way to a recovery effort on Highway 95, and was diverted to the rescue. Search and Rescue crews stabilized the injured hiker and carried him 300 yards to an area where the helicopter could hover. The hiker was loaded onto the hovering helicopter and was then transported to the awaiting ambulance crews. Burton Black photo
