The San Juan Bronco football team outlasts Wolves in defensive battle

THE ROUND-UP
by Tad Barton
The San Juan Broncos traveled to Enterprise, UT last Friday, September 22 to take on the Enterprise Wolves.
Both teams entered the game in search of their second win of the season, San Juan with a 1-4 record and Enterprise with a record of 1-3. After 48 minutes of play, the Broncos emerged victorious by a score of 14-6.
San Juan came out on the opening drive and started marching right down the field. The Broncos drove the ball to the Enterprise 35 yard line before the drive stalled after a false start penalty on San Juan killed the drive.
The Broncos appeared to have stopped the Wolves on their first drive of the game when Enterprise faced a fourth and two from their own 42 yard line, but an encroachment penalty gave the home team a new set of downs.
The Wolves took full advantage of the opportunity when they capped off that drive with a six-yard run for the score to go up 6-0, after the PAT was not good.
The Broncos knotted up the score at 6-6 in the second quarter when they turned an eleven-play, 68-yard drive into six points when Baylr Eldredge found Jaden Torgerson on a 16-yard touchdown pass. The PAT attempt sailed wide left and the score remained tied, 6-6.
The offensive struggles continued for both teams throughout the third quarter with neither offense able to sustain a drive long enough to score.
San Juan finally bucked the trend in the waning moments of the third, moving the ball down the field to the three-yard line as the quarter came to an end with the score still tied, 6-6.
The final score of the game came just six seconds into the fourth quarter when Eldredge got behind his offensive line and plowed his way into the end zone from three yards out. Ethan Vess then punched the ball across the goal line on the two-point conversion to put the Broncos up for good, 14-6.
San Juan returns home this weekend, as they host the South Sevier Rams for Homecoming. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
