San Juan’s kaleidoscope spring

Remember when you were a kid and saw your first kaleidoscope?
San Juan County has reminded me of a kaleidoscope this spring. I don’t remember a spring when the wild flowers were so richly abundant, so big, and so remarkably colorful. This is our reward for all that snow shoveling last winter.
If pictures are worth a thousand words, this will be the longest column I have ever written. All pictures below are from a stroll taken June 5 in an area of less than an acre at the Cougar Canyon Ranch about three miles southwest of Monticello.
Enjoy. Just one more of the wonders of San Juan.
