Pipkins named Citizens of the Year by the City of Monticello

Fritz and Barbara Pipkin were named Citizens of the Year by the City of Monticello at the Monticello High School holiday music concert on December 17.

The Pipkins have been involved in the work of cancer awareness in the community and have given countless hours of their time and personal resources.

Fritz and Barbara have been responsible for information gathered to document cancer cases for the State of Utah Cancer Registry. They have solicited information from cancer victims and followed up with telephone calls and personal visits to get the data needed to document the evidence.

They have spent hours listening to stories and shed many tears with local residents and former residents that have been affected by cancer.

The Pipkins have assisted with fund raising by walking the street during the Pioneer Day celebration, contacting new people, and by telling the cancer stories to organizations, including the State of Utah, in order to gain assistance for victims.

They have spent time in Washington, DC, lobbying U.S. Senators and Congressman in an effort to get preventive screening programs for the citizens of Monticello.

They have walked the mill site trail many times in reverence and respect for the many affected people in the community.

They personally feel the anguish and trauma of the devastating disease as they are among the victims.

As the community of Monticello is full of excellent and deserving people for Citizen of the Year, the Pipkins stand out in their service, sacrifice and hard work to help enrich the lives of others in the community.

With their spirit and appreciation of life, they are a great example of the people in the community that care and are willing to help. We are proud to have Fritz and Barbara Pipkin represent the people of Monticello.
