Outstanding female athlete at U of U

Pitcher Generra Nielson, of the University of Utah Ute softball team, is the recipient of the Occie Evans Award for 2011-12.  The award is presented to the outstanding senior female athlete in a team sport at the U.  
Nielson ranked sixth in the PAC-12 Conference with 21 wins last season and was fourth in the league with a 3.43 ERA.  She pitched 237 innings with 17 complete game efforts.  
She set Utah’s single-season strikeout record in 2012 with 294, ranking second in the PAC-12 and 15th in the NCAA.  She also tied the school’s single-game strikeout record twice in 2012, with 16 against UNC-Greensboro and Colgate.  
Nielson had 42 wins in two seasons at Utah and finished her career fourth in school history with 492 strikeouts.  She graduated from the U with a degree in sociology. Generra is the daughter of Jeff and Gena Nielson of Blanding, UT and the wife of Boo Anderson of Ute football fame.  She graduated from San Juan High in 2008.
