Utah Free Fishing Day is June 8
Utah Free Fishing Day is this Saturday, June 8. It allows anyone to fish at any public waterbody in Utah without a license.
Though you don’t need a license to fish on Utah Free Fishing Day, all other fishing rules are still in effect. Every other day of the year you’ll need a license to fish anywhere in the state.
Fishing licenses are valid for 365 days from the date of purchase and can be purchased online, at any DWR office, or from a DWR license agent.
Make sure you know the daily fish limits and other rules for the waterbody you’re fishing. You can find the rules in the 2024 Utah Fishing Guidebook.
Seasonal forecasts June through August.
Blanding Reservoir No. 4: Largemouth bass fishing picks up in the summer. Target flooded vegetation in shallow water to find bass. Rainbow trout stocked early in the spring typically provide fair to good fishing throughout the summer with popular baits, lures and flies. There are plenty of large tiger trout in the reservoir that stay in deep water during the day. Fish early morning or late at night from shore for the best opportunity to catch them.
Colorado River: Expect muddy and high water throughout the summer. Fishing will be difficult.
Dons Lake: Rainbow trout stocked early in the summer typically provide fair to good fishing throughout the summer with popular baits, lures and flies. Trout typically do not survive over the winter in this pond.
Foy Lake: Rainbow trout stocked early in the summer typically provide fair to good fishing throughout the summer with popular baits, lures and flies. Expect rainbows to be 10-12 inches in length.
Kens Lake: Trout fishing slows down in the summer due to warm water temperatures. Anglers can target catfish during this period. Fish with chicken liver, nightcrawlers or other smelly baits for best success.
Loyds Lake: Rainbow trout stocked early in the summer typically provide fair to good fishing throughout the summer with popular baits, lures and flies.
Monticello Lake: Rainbow trout stocked early in the summer typically provide fair to good fishing throughout the summer with popular baits, lures and flies. Trout typically do not survive over the winter in this pond.
Oowah Lake: Rainbow trout stocked early in the summer typically provide fair to good fishing throughout the summer with popular baits, lures and flies. A few wild brook trout can be caught in the deeper part of the reservoir.
Recapture Reservoir: Fishing can be fair to good during the summer months for a variety of fish species. The reservoir is full this year with a lot of flooded vegetation. Due to colder water temperatures and murky water, the bass and crappie spawn will be later. Fish around submerged trees and shrubs for largemouth bass and black crappie. Northern pike are ambush predators who will lie on the bottom on rocky flats or points, waiting for prey to swim by.
