Firewood permits on Ntl Forest
The USDA Manti-La Sal National Forest is issuing fuelwood permits and other forest products for the Monticello and Moab districts starting May 20, 2024, and continuing through November 30, 2024.
Fuelwood permits on the forest cost $5 per cord with a four-cord minimum purchase, and a ten-cord max purchase per household. Forest product permits for both the Moab and Monticello areas are available for purchase in-person at the Monticello Ranger District office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8a.m. to Noon and 1p.m. to 4:30p.m. In special cases, to request a forest product permit via phone, you may call the Monticello Ranger District Office. If ordering by phone, please allow 7-10 business days for the permit to arrive via mail. Otherwise, permits purchased in-person are immediately issued.
All rules and regulations associated with the fuelwood permits remain the same as previous years. A valid permit is required prior to collecting or removing any forest product, including fuelwood, from USDA Forest Service lands. Even while gathering fuelwood, the permit holder must remain on designated roads that are open and non-muddy; road conditions during the Spring can be adverse, driving muddy roads creates damage for all road users. The permit holder must be present and in possession of the permit when acquiring fuelwood, and they must fill out the number of cords collected until the permit is filled. Each permit has updated maps of where a permit holder may harvest firewood, each district has updated maps found on the Manti-La Sal National Forest’s Forest Products Permits webpage.
